Army thwarts terrorists attack on Zamfara Forward Operating Base

Troops have successfully thwarted an attempted terrorist attack on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Bukuyyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Zagazola Makama, counter-insurgency expert, while quoting security sources report that the attack occurred at about 2:45pm on Thursday when suspected terrorists tried to overrun troops stationed at FOB Gwashi.

“According to the sources, the troops responded with superior firepower, engaging the attackers in a fierce exchange of gunfire and forcing them to abandon the assault and retreat from the area,” Makama said.

It said troops from the Forward Operating Bases in Gummi and Bukuyyum were immediately deployed to reinforce the position and assist in ongoing clearance operations.

“The sources said troops have since intensified surveillance and domination of the general area while reinforcing defensive positions to prevent the terrorists from regrouping or launching further attacks,” the report added.

Makama further disclosed that no soldier was killed or injured during the encounter.

The military sources described the rapid response as a demonstration of the troops’ operational preparedness and commitment to preventing terrorist groups from operating freely within the area.

It added that security forces have sustained aggressive patrols and intelligence-driven operations aimed at tracking down the fleeing attackers and maintaining pressure on criminal elements active in Zamfara State.
