Arsenal Women have continued their ambitious squad rebuild ahead of the new Women’s Super League season by completing the signing of highly rated German winger Lisa Baum from RB Leipzig, securing one of Europe’s brightest young football talents after beating several elite clubs to her signature.

The 19-year-old Germany youth international joins the North London club in a transfer reportedly worth a significant six-figure fee, making it the biggest sale in the history of RB Leipzig Women’s team. Baum becomes Arsenal’s fifth signing of the summer, reinforcing a squad determined to reclaim domestic dominance and compete for European honours.

Her arrival follows months of speculation linking her with some of the biggest clubs in women’s football, including Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Lyon and Manchester United. However, Arsenal successfully convinced the exciting attacker that the Emirates Stadium was the ideal destination to continue her rapid development.

Baum has signed a long-term contract with the reigning UEFA Women’s Champions League holders and will wear the No. 19 shirt as she begins a new chapter in England.

Expressing her excitement after completing the move, Baum described Arsenal as the perfect environment to challenge herself and fulfil her ambitions.

The young forward said she was delighted to join one of the world’s biggest women’s football clubs, adding that competing in the Women’s Super League and UEFA Women’s Champions League represents an important step in her career. She also emphasized her desire to continue improving while helping Arsenal compete for major trophies.

Head coach Renée Slegers also welcomed the signing, describing Baum as one of Europe’s most promising young attacking players.

According to Slegers, the German possesses explosive pace, excellent dribbling ability and a fearless attacking mentality that will strengthen Arsenal’s wide options. She added that although Baum is still only 19, the club believes she has enormous potential and intends to support her long-term development.

Baum’s journey to one of England’s biggest clubs has been built on consistent progress and determination.

Born in Germany, she developed through the country’s highly respected youth football system before attracting national attention with her outstanding performances for Hamburger SV Women.

During the 2024/25 campaign, Baum played a leading role in helping Hamburg secure promotion to the Frauen Bundesliga. She also inspired the club to an unforgettable run to the semi-finals of the DFB Pokal, where Hamburg narrowly missed out on reaching the final after suffering a dramatic extra-time defeat before more than 57,000 spectators at the Volksparkstadion.

Her performances during that remarkable season immediately placed her on the radar of several European heavyweights.

Bayern Munich expressed interest in signing the winger, but Baum instead chose RB Leipzig, believing regular first-team football would accelerate her development.

The decision proved to be the perfect career move.

In her only season with Leipzig, Baum established herself as one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting young attackers. She scored six goals and registered two assists while consistently troubling defenders with her pace, creativity and direct running.

Her impressive displays helped Leipzig remain competitive in Germany’s top division while significantly raising her profile across Europe.

Known for her explosive acceleration, technical ability and confidence in one-on-one situations, Baum has earned comparisons with some of Europe’s leading modern wingers.

Equally comfortable playing on either flank, she combines intelligent movement with excellent ball control and possesses the versatility to operate as an attacking midfielder when required.

Her performances have also made her a regular feature in Germany’s youth national teams, where coaches have praised both her maturity and professionalism despite her young age.

RB Leipzig officials paid tribute to Baum following the completion of her transfer.

The club’s Head of Women’s and Girls’ Football, Viola Odebrecht, praised the teenager’s remarkable development, saying her move to Arsenal reflects the tremendous progress she made during her time at Leipzig.

Head coach Jonas Stephan also expressed confidence that Baum has the qualities needed to become one of the world’s best players in her position if she continues progressing at the same pace.

For Arsenal, Baum’s signing represents another important step in what has already become one of the most impressive transfer windows in Europe.

Baum is expected to provide additional attacking depth following the departure of England star Beth Mead, while also bringing fresh energy and competition to Arsenal’s frontline.

The club hopes the teenager can follow the successful path of recent young arrivals rather than previous prospects who struggled to establish themselves in North London.

Arsenal remain the most successful club in the history of English women’s football and the only English side to have won the UEFA Women’s Champions League. However, the club has not lifted the Women’s Super League title since 2019.

Following an aggressive recruitment drive this summer, expectations are growing that Arsenal finally possess the quality and squad depth required to challenge Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United for domestic supremacy while also competing strongly in Europe.

For Lisa Baum, the move represents the biggest challenge of her young career. For Arsenal, it could prove to be another masterstroke as the club continues building a squad capable of returning to the summit of women’s football.
