ABUJA, NIGERIA — A political aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to invite Yoruba nation agitator Sunday Igboho for questioning over his recent comments linking alleged kidnappings in Oyo State to political actors.

The call follows renewed debate over insecurity in Oyo State, particularly the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in parts of the state, which has triggered widespread public concern and political reactions.

According to the aide, Igboho’s claims that some politicians may be sponsoring kidnappers require proper scrutiny by security agencies in order to prevent misinformation and ensure that such allegations do not escalate tensions within the state or the wider region.

He urged the Department of State Services to invite Igboho for clarification, arguing that individuals making sensitive security-related allegations should be prepared to substantiate their claims with credible evidence.

The aide also emphasized that while citizens have the right to express concerns about insecurity, such statements must be made responsibly, especially when they involve serious accusations against public officials or political figures.

The comments have sparked mixed reactions, with some observers supporting the call for investigation, while others argue that public figures should be allowed to express concerns freely in the face of rising insecurity across parts of the country.

Security analysts note that misinformation and unverified claims can complicate ongoing investigations and heighten public tension, particularly in already volatile regions affected by kidnapping and armed attacks.

They stress the importance of balancing freedom of expression with responsible communication, especially when addressing sensitive issues such as terrorism, kidnapping, and alleged political involvement in criminal activities.

The Department of State Services has not issued an official response regarding the call for Igboho’s invitation at the time of this report.
