BAUCHI, NIGERIA — The Bauchi State First Lady, Hajiya Aishatu Mohammed, has commissioned a new National Health Insurance Scheme complex at the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, a project that is expected to significantly enhance healthcare access for women and children across the state.
The commissioning ceremony, which took place on Saturday, was attended by senior government officials, health sector stakeholders, and members of the Bauchi State Executive Council. The new facility is designed to streamline the enrollment and administration of the state’s health insurance scheme, providing a dedicated space for the processing of claims and the coordination of care for enrollees.
Speaking at the event, Hajiya Aishatu Mohammed emphasised the importance of health insurance in reducing the financial burden of healthcare on families, particularly for vulnerable groups. She commended the state government for its continued investment in healthcare infrastructure and called on residents to take advantage of the NHIS to access quality medical services.
The First Lady also highlighted the role of the health insurance scheme in improving maternal and child health outcomes, noting that access to affordable healthcare was critical to reducing maternal and infant mortality rates in the state. She encouraged women to enroll in the scheme and to ensure that their children also benefit from the coverage.
