Former Big Brother Naija housemate Queen Mercy Atang has opened up about the intense and painful experience behind the viral bread dress she wore to the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, revealing that the bold fashion statement came at a significant physical cost.

The reality star made headlines after appearing at the high-profile event in a dress crafted from 500 loaves of bread, a look that sparked widespread reactions online. Speaking in an interview, Queen clarified that the outfit was designed by renowned fashion designer Toyin Lawani of Tiannah Empire, noting that she was not responsible for creating the piece but simply wore it as styled.

Despite its creative appeal, Queen disclosed that the dress was extremely heavy and physically demanding to wear. According to her, the weight of the bread caused a serious wound on her back and nearly left her unable to stand properly. She described the moment as overwhelming, admitting that she broke down in tears while trying to put it on and even had to remove it briefly to catch her breath before continuing.

She explained that the concept behind the unconventional outfit was to promote her business, an idea suggested by her stylist. Although she initially had no plans to attend the awards ceremony, having set other business goals for herself, she said her designer convinced her otherwise, insisting that she could not afford to appear in a simple outfit at such a major event.

Queen also revealed that she arrived after the red carpet session had ended but still chose to attend the event physically. According to her, she wanted to avoid any assumptions that the viral images of her outfit were digitally created or generated using artificial intelligence.

Her appearance has since remained a major talking point, highlighting both the creativity and the extreme lengths some celebrities go to in order to make unforgettable fashion statements on one of Africa’s biggest entertainment stages.
