Trabzonspor goalkeeper André Onana has escaped injury following a three-car accident in Turkey, with the Cameroonian international and his family reportedly safe after the incident.

Onana, who is on loan at Trabzonspor from Manchester United, was taken to hospital for medical examinations following the collision on Thursday night, October 22, 2026. Reports published the following day indicated that he had been discharged after checks and that neither he nor his family had suffered injuries.

The accident reportedly occurred in the Yomra district of Trabzon as the goalkeeper travelled home following his club’s 2-0 victory over Scottish side Hearts in the UEFA Conference League.

According to reports from local media, Onana was travelling with members of his family when another vehicle struck his car from behind. The impact reportedly pushed his vehicle into the car ahead, resulting in a chain-reaction collision involving three vehicles.

Emergency services attended the scene, while news of the accident prompted concern among supporters and members of the football community.

Despite the reported force of the collision, the subsequent updates provided reassuring news about the goalkeeper’s condition. Onana was taken to hospital as a precaution, and reports indicated that he was discharged following medical examinations.

Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan also offered reassurance regarding the goalkeeper’s condition, with reports indicating that there were no serious concerns following the incident.

The accident occurred only hours after Onana had helped Trabzonspor secure an important European victory. The Turkish club defeated Hearts 2-0 at Papara Park, with the goalkeeper keeping a clean sheet.

The result provided another positive moment for Onana as he continues his spell in Turkey, where regular first-team football has offered him an opportunity to maintain his form away from the pressure he experienced during his time at Manchester United.

His immediate well-being is now the principal concern, although his availability for Trabzonspor’s upcoming fixtures will depend on any further medical assessments and the club’s decision regarding his return to action. No definitive update on his participation in the next match was established in the reports available on Friday.

Onana joined Manchester United from Inter Milan in 2023 after building a reputation as a goalkeeper comfortable with possession-based football. He had previously played for Ajax, where his performances in domestic and European competitions helped establish him among Europe’s recognised goalkeepers.

His time at Manchester United proved challenging, with inconsistent performances attracting criticism and placing him under considerable scrutiny. His loan move to Trabzonspor subsequently provided an opportunity to secure regular playing time and rebuild confidence.

At Inter Milan, Onana had played a key role in the club’s run to the 2023 UEFA Champions League final. That campaign strengthened his reputation and helped convince Manchester United to sign him as a long-term goalkeeping option.

His move to Trabzonspor has given him a fresh environment in which to demonstrate his abilities while remaining contracted to Manchester United.

For now, the most encouraging development is that Onana and his family reportedly escaped the accident without injuries. Although the circumstances of the collision raised understandable concerns, the available updates indicate that the goalkeeper was discharged from hospital after medical checks.

Further official information about the cause of the accident and Onana’s readiness to return to training had not been established in the reports available as of October 23.

Trabzonspor supporters will hope the incident has no lasting consequences for the goalkeeper as the club continues its domestic and European campaigns.
