BREAKING – FG. to Striking Nurses: Come to the Table, Let’s End This Now

The Federal Government on Thursday, has formally urged the group of striking health workers, with particular emphasis on nurses, to end their industrial action, assuring them that the contentious matters behind the strike are open to resolution through constructive dialogue.
This appeal comes amidst an ongoing standoff that has affected healthcare service delivery nationwide.
In a recent briefing at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Prof. Alli Pate, announced that the government has scheduled a high-level meeting with key representatives from the nurses and doctors’ unions to take place on Friday.
Prof. Pate is the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare.
The purpose of this meeting is to engage directly with the leadership of the striking workers and discuss all outstanding grievances in hopes of reaching a mutual agreement.
Prof. Pate, speaking to State House correspondents following the Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu, stressed that the government has thoroughly examined the issues prompting the strike.
According to him, steps have already been taken in response to the demands raised by the nurses and other health professionals.
He reiterated the government’s readiness and commitment to address the concerns through dialogue rather than prolonging the impasse.
The health minister’s statement signals the Federal Government’s desire to de-escalate tensions and restore normalcy in the healthcare sector.
Health services have been significantly disrupted as healthcare workers withdraw their labor.
This is in protest over unresolved matters, affecting patients’ access to essential medical care across the country.
In addition to addressing the strike situation, Prof. Pate also revealed a significant development stemming from the Federal Executive Council meeting.
He announced the approval for the establishment of a new Oncology Centre at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan.
This facility aims to enhance cancer treatment and research capabilities in the country, aligning with the administration’s broader ambitions to revamp the healthcare sector.
The Minister emphasized that the Bola Tinubu-led administration is spearheading a transformative agenda within Nigeria’s health system.
He said the administration is striving to improve infrastructure, expand service delivery, and elevate healthcare standards overall.
The approval of the Oncology Centre represents a strategic investment in specialized medical services, which are critical for addressing rising health challenges such as cancer.
In summary, the Federal Government is actively pursuing resolution of the ongoing health workers’ strike through scheduled negotiations.
This is while simultaneously advancing key healthcare projects.
The administration’s dual focus on conflict resolution and sectoral reform highlights its commitment to ensuring both immediate and long-term improvements in Nigeria’s healthcare landscape.
