Veteran Nigerian actor and film executive Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.
His passing was announced on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, by his son, Olusoji Jacobs, in an Instagram post. His wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, also announced the death of the celebrated actor.
In the family’s announcement, Olusoji described Jacobs as “The Lion of Lufodo” and expressed gratitude to God for his life, while appealing to bloggers and social media influencers to respect the family’s privacy as they mourn.
Jacobs was one of the most respected figures in Nigerian theatre and cinema, with a career that extended beyond Nollywood. Before becoming a household name in the Nigerian film industry, he appeared in several international productions and built a reputation as a versatile actor on both stage and screen.
His career also placed him among the Nigerian performers who helped establish a bridge between the country’s entertainment industry and international cinema.
For decades, Jacobs was known for his commanding screen presence and performances across different genres. His work in Nollywood further cemented his status as one of the industry’s most influential veterans.
His marriage to Joke Silva was also one of the most recognised partnerships in Nigerian entertainment. The couple had been married since 1985 and remained prominent figures in the Nigerian theatre and film community.

The family has, however, asked the public to allow them privacy during the mourning period.
