Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has described the Premier League club as his home and pledged to repay manager Xabi Alonso’s confidence in him as he looks to build on his return from injury.
The Ecuador international made his first start under Alonso in Chelsea’s emphatic 5-1 victory over Bournemouth after recovering from a calf injury that limited his involvement at the beginning of the season.
Caicedo’s return provided a timely boost for Chelsea, with the midfielder demonstrating his importance through his defensive work, ball recovery and ability to help the team control the middle of the pitch.
Speaking in an interview published on Chelsea’s official website, the 24-year-old expressed his appreciation for the support he has received since joining the club from Brighton and Hove Albion in 2023.
“I can say Chelsea is my home, because they treat me like I’ve been here for a long, long time,” Caicedo said.
The midfielder added that he wanted to continue rewarding the club’s commitment to him by delivering performances that would make the supporters happy.
“It’s a special place for me. I want to always give them happiness because I know they did everything for me,” he said.
Caicedo also acknowledged Alonso’s influence on his development, expressing confidence that working under the Spanish manager would help him improve further.
“With Xabi I am going to keep developing, for sure, and show him why he trusts me,” he said.
The midfielder made an immediate impression during Chelsea’s victory over Bournemouth, contributing to the build-up to two of the team’s early goals through his pressing and ability to win possession.
He won a tackle during the move that led to Jordan Henderson’s opening goal before recovering the ball again in the sequence that allowed Morgan Rogers to double Chelsea’s advantage.
His contribution highlighted the importance of his work away from the ball, particularly in disrupting opposition attacks and helping Chelsea transition quickly from defence to attack.
Caicedo was substituted in the 72nd minute after Chelsea had established a commanding 5-1 lead, receiving applause from the home supporters as he left the pitch.
Beyond his contribution in midfield, the Ecuadorian international is also determined to become a more vocal presence within the squad.
Although he is part of Chelsea’s leadership group, Caicedo acknowledged that communicating more frequently with his teammates is an area in which he wants to improve.
He explained that several coaches had encouraged him to speak more on the pitch, recognising the leadership qualities he already demonstrates through his performances.
Caicedo admitted that being outspoken does not come naturally to him, but said he was determined to find ways to become more effective in that responsibility.
Rather than relying exclusively on verbal instructions, the midfielder has often sought to lead through his work rate, discipline and consistency during matches.
He also credited former Chelsea defender Thiago Silva with providing an example of leadership during their time together at Stamford Bridge.
Silva’s experience and communication skills offered valuable lessons for Caicedo as he continues to develop his influence within the dressing room.
The Ecuadorian described his inclusion in Chelsea’s leadership group as a source of pride for both himself and his family, underlining the responsibility he feels towards the club.
Caicedo also praised Chelsea supporters for their backing, saying the encouragement he receives from fans motivates him to maintain high standards.
He highlighted the special feeling of hearing supporters sing his name, adding that their support strengthens his determination to contribute to the team’s success.
Since arriving from Brighton in 2023, Caicedo has become an important figure in Chelsea’s midfield, combining defensive awareness with the ability to recover possession and distribute the ball under pressure.
His return from injury is therefore significant for Alonso, who will be keen to have the midfielder available consistently as Chelsea pursue their objectives in the Premier League.
However, Caicedo’s latest comments suggest that his ambitions extend beyond simply returning to full fitness. He wants to become a more complete midfielder, improve his leadership and justify the confidence shown in him by the manager.
Chelsea will hope that his return marks the beginning of a consistent run of performances as the season progresses.
For Caicedo, the priority is clear: continue improving, repay the trust placed in him and help Chelsea compete for major honours.
His description of the club as home reflects the connection he has developed with the supporters, while his commitment to becoming a stronger leader signals his desire to take on greater responsibility within the team.
