Caleb Flynn Breaks Down as Daughters Confront Him Over Mother’s Murder (VIDEO)

Former “American Idol” contestant Caleb Flynn broke down in court as his daughters confronted him over the murder of their mother, Ashley Flynn, before he was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

Flynn was sentenced on Monday after an Ohio jury found him guilty on all nine charges connected to Ashley’s death, including aggravated murder, three counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault and three counts of tampering with evidence.

Miami County Judge Jeannine N. Pratt ordered Flynn to serve an additional 16 years before beginning his life sentence. Seven years were imposed for firearm specifications, followed by nine years for three counts of tampering with evidence. The judge said consecutive sentences were necessary because of the seriousness of the crimes.

The emotional sentencing hearing took a painful turn when Flynn’s daughters addressed their father over the death of their mother.

One of the daughters, whose statement was read in court by her uncle Matthew Keyt, questioned how Flynn could have killed Ashley and accused him of choosing an affair and lies over his family.

“How could you do such a thing? I looked up to you. I loved you with all my heart,” she wrote, describing her mother as “the absolute perfect person.”

She said she continued to cry over her mother’s death and prayed for Flynn to confess and repent.

The daughter also told her father that she did not plan to visit him in prison.

“Through all of what you put me through, God is going to work something out for good. And by the way, I don’t plan on coming to see you,” she wrote.

Flynn could be heard sobbing and wiping his tears with a tissue as the statement was read.

His other daughter also confronted him, telling him that he should acknowledge what happened and repent. She questioned how he could publicly profess his love for God while keeping secrets from his family.

Ashley’s sister, Kayla Keyt, also addressed Flynn during the hearing, accusing him of taking a mother away from her daughters and destroying a family that trusted him.

“You took Ashley from the earth,” Keyt said. “You took a mother from her daughters.”

Despite her anger and grief, Keyt said she forgave Flynn because she did not want hatred and bitterness to cause further damage to the family.

Flynn also addressed the court before sentencing. He apologized to his daughters for the milestones he would miss and apologized to Ashley’s family for breaking his marriage vows and causing them pain.

However, he maintained that he did not kill his wife.

“I did not kill my wife,” Flynn said, adding that he intended to continue fighting to prove his innocence.

The case centered heavily on Flynn’s relationship with Alleigha Botner, with prosecutors presenting about 107,000 messages exchanged between the two. Prosecutors argued that some of the messages showed Flynn discussing his wife’s death and considering ways she could be killed without him going to prison.

Botner also testified about messages exchanged shortly before Ashley was killed, including Flynn allegedly telling her, “It’s happening” and “Tomorrow it all starts.” She responded, “You’re about to be free.”

Flynn’s defence disputed the prosecution’s interpretation of the messages, arguing that references to being “free” related to divorce rather than murder.

Prosecutors said Ashley was shot twice in the back of the head inside the couple’s Tipp City, Ohio, home on February 16. They argued that Flynn staged the scene to make it appear that an intruder had entered the house.

The murder weapon was never recovered, and investigators did not obtain gunshot-residue evidence from Flynn. Authorities searched storm drains, culverts, the Flynn home and other locations in an unsuccessful effort to locate the firearm.

Flynn, who had pleaded not guilty, was also ordered to pay $20,000 in restitution for funeral expenses and court costs. He received credit for 229 days already spent in jail.

The sentencing marked the latest chapter in a case that left Flynn’s daughters without their mother and ended with their father facing the rest of his life behind bars. Despite the jury’s verdict and sentence, Flynn continues to maintain that he was not responsible for Ashley’s killing.
