The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) says it has secured a High Court judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise and use the party’s modified digital logo.
NDC National Chairman, Seriake Dickson, announced the development, saying the Abuja court, presided over by Justice J. O. Abdulmalik, granted the party’s request to compel INEC to upload and use the logo contained in its constitution.
Dickson said the party submitted the modified logo to INEC after its first National Executive Council meeting.
According to him, the electoral commission initially uploaded the modified logo but later reverted to the party’s original logo without explanation.
“After giving INEC sufficient time to correct the situation without any action taken, we were compelled to go to court,” Dickson said.
He commended the judiciary for what he described as a timely intervention, saying the judgment affirmed the party’s position and protected due process.
The NDC chairman directed all party candidates and members to immediately adopt the approved logo on campaign materials, including posters, banners and other publicity items.
He also urged members not to panic over the dispute.
“I want to assure everyone that the party has experienced and strategic leaders who understand what we are doing. Therefore, nobody should panic,” he said.
Dickson acknowledged that some candidates may have already produced campaign materials featuring the previous logo but assured them that the party would work to ensure a smooth transition.
He described the dispute as one of the administrative challenges the party has faced but said the NDC would continue to defend its interests through democratic and legal means.
He added that the party would embark on further publicity efforts to educate members and voters on the approved logo as preparations for future political activities continue.
