A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to produce socialite Afolabi Kazeem Micheal, popularly known as KayCee Luxury, before the court over his continued detention.
The order followed an ex parte application filed by Afolabi through his lawyer, A. Labi-Lawal, SAN, under the Fundamental Rights (Enforcement Procedure) Rules, 2009.
NDLEA operatives arrested Afolabi on August 13 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while he was preparing to travel to Paris.
His lawyers approached the court after he had spent more than 14 days in NDLEA custody without, according to the application, being formally charged or arraigned.
The applicant is asking the court to intervene, arguing that his continued detention violates his fundamental rights.
Following the application, the court directed the NDLEA to produce Afolabi before it for the hearing of the matter.
