COVENTRY, ENGLAND — Coventry City have reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest to sign Nigeria international Taiwo Awoniyi, with the striker currently undergoing his medical ahead of completing a permanent move to the newly promoted Premier League side.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development on Saturday, stating that the two clubs have finalised terms for the 29-year-old forward. Awoniyi is expected to become the latest Nigerian international to join Coventry, linking up with compatriot Frank Onyeka at the club.
Awoniyi joined Nottingham Forest from Bundesliga side Union Berlin in 2022 and spent four years at the City Ground. However, the Super Eagles forward struggled for regular playing time during his final season at Forest, scoring four goals and providing one assist in 17 league appearances.
The move to Coventry will give Awoniyi an opportunity for a fresh start under manager Frank Lampard as the club prepares for life in the Premier League. Awoniyi previously established himself as a Premier League striker during his time at Forest and will now look to rediscover his best form with Coventry.
The transfer is expected to be completed once the striker finishes his medical and final formalities are concluded. Awoniyi’s arrival adds significant attacking experience to Coventry’s squad as they gear up for the challenges of top-flight football.
