Tension broke out at the Delta State Government House in Asaba over the weekend after a cow attacked staff members during a slaughter attempt.

The cow, reportedly brought in for meat, suddenly broke loose. It charged at several workers, causing panic and confusion in the premises.

One man in his 30s tried to restrain the animal.

However, the cow knocked him down with force, leaving him badly injured.

He suffered deep wounds on his thighs. First responders rushed him to the Government House clinic for urgent treatment.

Due to the severity of his injuries, doctors quickly referred him to another hospital.

He is now battling for his life, according to a close source who witnessed the incident.

The source also revealed that the injured man was the second butcher called after the first team failed to control the cow.

The initial two butchers reportedly panicked and fled after the cow turned violent.

Another worker, identified simply as Peter, also sustained injuries.

Peter works as a cook within the Government House. He had come near the area when the cow struck.

Eyewitnesses said workers ran in all directions as the animal rampaged through the compound.

“The cow completely overpowered everyone,” the source added. “Even the men meant to kill it couldn’t stand their ground.”

The source noted that security personnel tried to bring the situation under control. However, they too struggled to subdue the animal.

As of the time of reporting, the Delta State Government had not issued any official statement on the incident.

There was also no confirmation on the current health status of the two injured workers.

The surprise attack has raised questions about safety protocols during livestock handling at the Government House.

Some staff members are now calling for tighter control and proper slaughter procedures to avoid a repeat of such a dangerous scene.
