Nigeria international Deborah Abiodun has been dealt another painful setback after the Washington Spirit confirmed that the midfielder will miss the remainder of the 2026 NWSL season because of injury.
The 22-year-old, who has established herself as an important figure for both the Washington Spirit and the Super Falcons, was initially placed on the club’s 45-day injury list. However, after further assessment, Washington Spirit moved her to the season-ending injury list, effectively bringing her club campaign to an abrupt end.
Abiodun is now expected to undergo surgery, adding another difficult chapter to what has already been a challenging period for the Nigerian midfielder.
The injury comes at an especially frustrating time for Abiodun, who had been building an increasingly important role at club and international level. Before the setback, she had made nine appearances for Washington Spirit this season, starting four matches and accumulating 320 minutes of playing time.
