Veteran Nigerian comedian and actor Okey Bakassi and his wife, Ezinne, are celebrating a major milestone as they mark 25 years of marriage.
The comedian, whose real name is Okechukwu Onyegbule, reflected on the couple’s remarkable journey as he celebrated their silver wedding anniversary with a heartfelt tribute to his wife.
According to Okey Bakassi, their story began long before they exchanged marital vows. The couple first met in 1988 and gradually developed a friendship after exchanging several love letters.
However, life eventually took them in different directions as they pursued higher education.
The separation did not mark the end of their relationship. Okey Bakassi described their reunion as a case of destiny bringing them back together after circumstances had temporarily pulled them apart.
Years after their first meeting, the couple returned to Port Harcourt, the city where their relationship began, to officially become husband and wife.
They exchanged their vows on September 1, 2001, surrounded by family and friends.
Twenty-five years later, the couple are now parents to three children, whom Okey Bakassi described as three grown young adults.
Reflecting on their marriage, the veteran entertainer said they were not celebrating simply to set a record or prove doubters wrong.
Instead, he explained that they were marking the milestone as a reminder that they made the right decision by choosing to build their lives together.
Their journey, he suggested, has involved love, trust, faith, humility, sacrifice and perseverance, particularly while navigating the challenges of an ever-changing world.
In his anniversary message to his wife, Okey Bakassi expressed gratitude for the role she has played throughout their years together.
