Nigerian disc jockey and entertainer Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has expressed admiration for her father, billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, saying she wishes she possessed his business intelligence and investment instincts.
Cuppy made the remark in a LinkedIn post on Monday, October 12, 2026, in which she reflected on the lessons she continues to learn from her father, particularly his approach to investing, wealth creation and building long-term business value.
The entertainer explained that whenever her father visits London, she makes an effort to spend time with him and learn from his experiences in business.
“Whenever Mr Femi Otedola comes to London, I MUST pick his brain! Why do I think understanding how my dad thinks is important? Tbh, I wish I had his brain. Genius!” she wrote.
Her comments highlighted the importance she places on learning directly from someone whose business decisions and investment activities have attracted considerable attention in Nigeria’s corporate world.
Beyond praising her father’s financial success, Cuppy said observing his investment in First HoldCo Plc had influenced her understanding of what it takes to build a successful business.
According to her, business should not be measured solely by the money it generates but also by the value it creates for shareholders, customers and the wider economy.
“Watching him grow his investment in First HoldCo Plc has taught me that business isn’t just about making money, but creating value for others,” she said.
First HoldCo Plc is a Nigerian financial services group with interests in banking and other financial services. Its operations and financial performance make it an important part of discussions about investment opportunities and corporate value in Nigeria.
Cuppy also drew attention to the company’s dividend policy, which targets a minimum payout of 60 per cent of its annual profit after tax to shareholders, subject to applicable regulatory approvals.
The policy, approved by the company’s board in July 2026, outlines its approach to distributing a portion of its earnings to shareholders while operating within relevant regulatory requirements.
For investors, dividend policies can provide an indication of how a company intends to balance shareholder returns with other financial priorities. However, actual payments remain dependent on the company’s financial performance, applicable approvals and the terms of the policy.
Cuppy said she was particularly impressed by her father’s confidence in the company, pointing to the scale of his personal investment in its shares.
“What fascinates me even more is his confidence. He’s invested over $450 million of his own money in shares.
“Now that’s putting your money where your mouth is!” she wrote.
Her observation reflected the significance she attaches to investors committing their own capital to businesses they believe have long-term potential.
For aspiring entrepreneurs and investors, such commitments can demonstrate confidence in a company’s prospects, although investment decisions also involve financial risks and require careful assessment of market conditions, corporate performance and individual circumstances.
Cuppy’s post also offered a glimpse into her relationship with her father as a source of guidance beyond family life. While she has established her own public profile through music and entertainment, her latest comments suggest that she continues to draw lessons from his experience in the corporate world.
The disc jockey has previously spoken about the influence her father has had on her life and career. Despite being associated with a wealthy business family, she has pursued her interests in music, entertainment and public engagement.
Her latest reflection, however, focused less on personal achievements and more on the value of learning how experienced businesspeople think, make decisions and assess opportunities.
“The older I get, the more I realise that the REAL wealth is in the way he thinks. I’ll always be his student. Very happy to learn,” she added.
The statement suggests that Cuppy increasingly views knowledge, judgement and business experience as important forms of wealth alongside financial assets.
Her comments also reinforce a broader lesson about mentorship and intergenerational learning, particularly for young people seeking to understand entrepreneurship and investment. Access to experienced mentors can help aspiring businesspeople develop their decision-making skills, although successful investing still requires independent research and an understanding of risk.
For Cuppy, her father’s approach to business appears to offer an ongoing opportunity to learn about investment strategy, corporate growth and the responsibilities associated with wealth.
By publicly acknowledging the lessons she has gained from Femi Otedola, the entertainer has presented him not only as her father but also as a mentor whose business thinking she continues to study and admire.
