ADO-EKITI, EKITI STATE – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Dr. Wole Oluyede, has pledged to prioritise comprehensive healthcare reform and strengthened social security systems if elected in the 2026 governorship election.

Oluyeye made the promise while outlining his campaign agenda, which he said is focused on improving public welfare, expanding access to quality healthcare services, and building stronger social protection structures for vulnerable residents across the state.

Healthcare Reform At The Centre Of Campaign

According to the PDP candidate, his administration would focus on overhauling the state’s healthcare system to ensure that primary and secondary healthcare centres are better equipped and more accessible to citizens.

He stated that many communities in Ekiti still struggle with inadequate medical facilities, shortage of personnel, and limited access to essential drugs, challenges he vowed to address through targeted investment and policy reforms.

Oluyede also emphasised the need to strengthen maternal and child healthcare services, reduce preventable deaths, and improve emergency response systems across rural and urban areas of the state.

Social Security And Welfare Plans

Beyond healthcare, the governorship hopeful promised to introduce a more structured social security framework aimed at supporting low-income families, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups.

He noted that economic hardship has increased the need for government-backed welfare interventions, adding that his administration would prioritise programmes designed to reduce poverty and improve living standards.

The candidate also highlighted plans to create sustainable empowerment initiatives, particularly for youths and small business owners, as part of broader efforts to stimulate economic growth and reduce unemployment.

Campaign Focus Ahead Of 2026 Election

The 2026 Ekiti governorship election is already shaping up to be competitive, with major political parties intensifying consultations, campaigns, and policy messaging across the state.

Observers say key issues such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, and job creation are expected to dominate political debates as candidates present their manifestos to voters.

Oluyede’s policy direction reflects growing voter concerns about social services and economic stability, which many residents say remain critical challenges in the state.

Political Reactions And Expectations

Political analysts note that campaign promises around healthcare and social welfare often resonate strongly with voters, particularly in states where public services face structural challenges.

However, they also stress that implementation capacity, funding, and political will will be key factors in determining whether such promises can be translated into tangible outcomes if elected.

Party stakeholders within the PDP have expressed optimism about the candidate’s chances, describing his agenda as people-focused and aligned with the needs of ordinary citizens.

Outlook For The Election

As the 2026 election approaches, campaigns are expected to intensify further, with candidates increasing outreach efforts and policy engagements across local communities.

Voters are anticipated to scrutinise manifestos closely, especially on issues related to healthcare delivery, social protection, and economic development, which remain central to public concern in Ekiti State.
