LIVERPOOL — Everton have secured the future of experienced defender Michael Keane after confirming a new contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2027, marking a decade-long stay at Goodison Park.

The announcement was made as the club continues to reinforce stability within its defensive unit, with Keane remaining one of the longest-serving players in the current squad and a key figure in Everton’s backline.

Keane’s new deal extends his tenure into a tenth season at the club, further strengthening his status as a senior leader within the dressing room. The centre-back originally joined Everton in 2017 after a career pathway that began at Manchester United’s academy.

He came through the youth system at Manchester United after joining at the age of 11 but struggled to establish himself in the first team. His only senior appearance for the club came in a Premier League match against Sunderland in 2014.

Following his time at United, Keane experienced several loan spells at clubs including Leicester City, Derby County, Blackburn Rovers, and Burnley, where his performances eventually earned him a permanent move and recognition as a reliable Premier League defender.

His consistency at Burnley paved the way for his transfer to Everton, where he has since become a central defensive figure. Over the years, he has made 259 appearances for the Merseyside club, including 223 in the Premier League, and has scored 19 goals from defence.

Speaking after signing the new deal, Keane expressed strong emotional attachment to the club, describing Everton as a second family and a major part of his life. He said reaching ten years at the club is a milestone he is proud of and added that he remains optimistic about the team’s future direction.
