The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) has shared ₦2.428 trillion among the Federal Government, 36 state governments and 774 local government councils as revenue for September 2026.
Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja after FAAC’s October meeting.
According to the statement, the distributable revenue comprised ₦1.672 trillion in statutory revenue and ₦756.587 billion from Value Added Tax (VAT).
Mokwa said total gross revenue of ₦3.913 trillion was available for distribution before deductions for collection costs, transfers, refunds and savings.
The committee deducted ₦131.758 billion as the cost of collection, while transfers, refunds and savings amounted to ₦1.352 trillion.
Gross statutory revenue rose to ₦3.096 trillion in September, an increase of ₦246.384 billion from the ₦2.850 trillion recorded in August.
However, gross VAT revenue declined to ₦816.872 billion from ₦834.843 billion in August, representing a drop of ₦17.972 billion.
The statement said Petroleum Profit Tax, Hydrocarbon Tax, petroleum royalties, import duty, Common External Tariff (CET) levies and excise duty recorded significant increases.
In contrast, Companies Income Tax, Capital Gains Tax, Stamp Duties, VAT, mineral royalties, gas-flaring penalties, gas-flaring fees and miscellaneous oil revenue recorded declines.
Of the ₦2.428 trillion shared, the Federal Government received ₦832.242 billion, while state governments received ₦799.872 billion. Local government councils got ₦560.660 billion.
The benefiting states also received ₦236.049 billion as 13 per cent derivation revenue from mineral resources.
A breakdown of the statutory revenue allocation showed that the Federal Government received ₦756.583 billion from the ₦1.672 trillion distributable pool.
State governments received ₦383.749 billion, while local government councils got ₦295.855 billion.
From the ₦756.587 billion distributable VAT revenue, the Federal Government received ₦75.659 billion, state governments got ₦416.123 billion, and local government councils received ₦264.805 billion.
The September allocation follows an increase in the amount received by state governments in the second quarter of 2026.
DDM had previously reported that Nigeria’s 36 states received a combined ₦2.39 trillion from the Federation Account during the quarter.
The amount represented an increase of ₦259.41 billion, or 12.2 per cent, from the ₦2.13 trillion allocated to the states in the first quarter.
State governments rely on Federation Account allocations to finance public expenditure, including infrastructure projects and other government responsibilities.
The latest distribution provides another monthly allocation of federally collected revenue to the three tiers of government under Nigeria’s revenue-sharing arrangements.
