A suspected thief has been arrested by the Nigeria Police following allegations that he orchestrated a fake wedding scheme to lure and rob unsuspecting makeup artists. The incident, which has drawn widespread attention online, highlights a disturbing pattern of deception targeting service providers.
According to reports, the suspect allegedly contacted makeup artists under the pretense of booking them for a wedding event, even going as far as sending an advance payment of ₦30,000 to appear credible. Trusting the arrangement, the victims honored the booking, only to be led to an unfamiliar and isolated location.
It was at this point, authorities say, that the situation took a dangerous turn. The suspect, reportedly working with an accomplice, allegedly robbed the victims of their valuables, including high-end mobile devices, an iPad, power banks, and cash. The victims later shared their experience on social media on July 16, calling for help and raising awareness about the incident.
Following investigations and digital tracking, law enforcement officials were able to apprehend the suspect. In his reported confession, he admitted to luring the victims into a secluded area where the robbery was carried out.
The case has sparked conversations about safety precautions among freelancers and small business owners, particularly those who rely on client bookings. Many are now urging service providers to verify clients thoroughly, avoid unfamiliar or isolated locations, and prioritize personal safety over job opportunities.
As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to pursue further action, including identifying and apprehending any accomplices involved in the crime.
