From Homemade Inventions to China: VeryDarkMan Takes Smartician Abroad for Tech Education

Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has left Nigeria with young inventor Darlyton Ovwighosuotu, popularly known online as Smartician, as the teenager begins a new chapter of his technology journey in China.

The development follows VeryDarkMan’s earlier decision to commit $50,000 from his personal funds toward the young innovator’s education and development.

Smartician first attracted VeryDarkMan’s attention through his inventions, which included homemade robots, machines and other technology projects created with limited resources. His creativity eventually brought him wider attention online and prompted VeryDarkMan to offer financial support for his education.

After the sponsorship was announced, Smartician reportedly went through the process of securing admission and a Chinese student visa. Reports subsequently confirmed that he obtained the visa and admission to study at a university in China, with his educational expenses covered by VeryDarkMan.

The latest journey marks a significant transition for the young inventor, who is now moving from building technology projects in Nigeria to pursuing formal education in an environment with access to new training opportunities and technological resources.

VeryDarkMan had previously explained that his decision to sponsor Smartician was driven by his desire to support young Nigerians with talent and potential. He said he did not want the teenager’s abilities to go unsupported because of financial limitations.

The activist also stated that the sponsorship was funded from his own money rather than through an organisation or non-governmental group. He said his support would cover the young man’s schooling and welfare.

Beyond the financial support, VeryDarkMan said he expected Smartician to eventually extend the same opportunity to other talented young Nigerians when he becomes successful.

Smartician’s journey has attracted attention because of the unusual path that brought him to this point. The teenager gained recognition for creating functional-looking technological projects from readily available materials, demonstrating an interest in robotics and engineering before receiving formal sponsorship for further education.

His move to China now represents the next stage of that development.

For VeryDarkMan, the trip also marks the fulfilment of a commitment he made after discovering the young inventor online.

For Smartician, however, the journey could be much bigger than simply studying abroad. It gives the young Nigerian an opportunity to develop his technical knowledge, gain formal training and potentially expand the skills that first brought him public attention.
