LAGOS, NIGERIA — Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has said that Nigerian men in politics are “ass lickers” and very cowardly.
Yesufu made the remark while reacting to a social media post that labelled Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the “First Female Governor of Rivers State.”
The Video
The X user had shared a video of Fubara declaring the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as the leader of political actors in Rivers State.
Fubara made the remarks on Tuesday at the unveiling of candidates of the Rainbow Coalition for the 2027 elections. The event was held at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.
Fubara said those who stood by him during the political crisis in the state must recognise that they now belong to the same political family. He said the family is the Rainbow Coalition led by Wike.
He also declared total support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu. He pledged support for the victory of all Rainbow Coalition candidates in Rivers State for the 2027 election.
Yesufu’s Reaction
Reacting to the video, Yesufu said Fubara showed the behaviour of men in politics. She said they are quick to grovel.
In the post shared on X, Yesufu argued that women in politics are usually bolder and more willing to stand their ground. She urged men to show greater conviction.
“That is the typical behavior of Nigerian MEN in politics. They are quick to grovel, ass lickers and very cowardly!!” she wrote.
“The women are usually bolder and can stand their grounds. Please own your gender with your full chest!!!!!”
What This Means
Yesufu’s comments highlight the gender dynamics in Nigerian politics. She has consistently advocated for women’s participation in governance.
Her remarks also reflect the political tensions in Rivers State. Fubara’s relationship with Wike has been a subject of intense speculation.
The governor’s declaration of Wike as the leader of political actors in the state has been interpreted by many as a significant political move.
What Happens Next
Fubara has not responded to Yesufu’s comments. The Rivers State Government has also not issued a statement on the matter.
For now, the focus is on the 2027 elections. The coming months will reveal how the political landscape in Rivers State shapes up.
