Millions of travellers can enter the United Kingdom without applying for a traditional visitor visa before departure. Instead, many eligible nationalities are required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), while Irish citizens remain exempt from both visa and ETA requirements under the Common Travel Area.
The UK classifies countries whose citizens must obtain a visa before travelling as “visa nationals.” Citizens of countries not on that list can generally visit the UK for up to six months for tourism, business meetings, family visits, or short courses, provided they meet the relevant entry requirements.
Some of the countries whose citizens can travel to the UK without a traditional visitor visa include:

Citizens of most European countries also enjoy visa-free entry for short visits. These include France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, and Ireland.
While travellers from many of these countries do not need a traditional visitor visa, most are still required to secure an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before travelling to the UK. Irish citizens remain the only exception, as they are exempt from both visa and ETA requirements under longstanding travel arrangements.
