Spanish club Getafe have made a formal offer to sign former Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho as the England international considers his next career move after becoming a free agent.
The La Liga side are keen to strengthen their attacking options and believe the 26-year-old could provide the creativity and individual quality needed to improve their performances this season.
Sancho has been without a club since his Manchester United contract expired at the end of June. Although several teams have reportedly explored the possibility of signing him, Getafe have now submitted a formal proposal, with negotiations continuing as the player discusses the offer with his representatives.
However, an agreement is not guaranteed, with financial considerations expected to play a significant role in determining whether the move can be completed.
Sancho is reportedly interested in continuing his career outside England but remains open to different opportunities. The winger is understood to be assessing the sporting and financial conditions available to him before making a final decision.
Getafe’s interest comes as the club look to add more attacking depth to their squad. Manager José Bordalás has been seeking players capable of beating opponents in one-on-one situations and creating opportunities from wide positions.
Sancho’s technical ability, dribbling skills and experience in major European competitions make him an attractive option for the Spanish outfit. His arrival could provide Getafe with an additional attacking dimension as they attempt to improve their position in the league.
The club have already attracted attention in the transfer market following the signing of former Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal, who joined on a free transfer after his contract with the European giants expired. Carvajal signed an agreement running until June 2027.
Sancho, however, presents a different financial challenge. Although Getafe would not need to pay a transfer fee, agreeing on personal terms and satisfying La Liga’s financial regulations could complicate negotiations.
The winger previously commanded a substantial transfer fee when Manchester United signed him from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for approximately £73m. The move raised expectations that he would become a key figure at Old Trafford, but he struggled to deliver consistent performances during his time at the club.
His spell at United was also affected by disagreements with the club’s management, while his opportunities in the first team became increasingly limited. He subsequently spent time away from Old Trafford on loan, returning to Borussia Dortmund before spells with Chelsea and Aston Villa.
His loan move to Chelsea during the 2024/25 campaign included an obligation to buy, but the London club reportedly paid a penalty to avoid completing the permanent transfer.
Sancho then joined Aston Villa on loan for the following season, making 39 appearances as the club enjoyed a successful campaign that included European competition. He scored once during the spell and featured as a substitute in Villa’s Europa League final victory over Freiburg.
Despite those experiences, the former England international has yet to secure a permanent destination since leaving Manchester United.
His current situation represents a significant turning point for a player who established himself as one of Europe’s most exciting young attacking talents during his time at Borussia Dortmund.
At the German club, Sancho developed a reputation for his pace, close control and ability to create scoring opportunities. Those performances eventually persuaded Manchester United to invest heavily in bringing him back to English football.
However, reproducing that form consistently in the Premier League proved difficult, and successive loan spells failed to establish a long-term solution to his situation.
A move to Getafe could offer him an opportunity to rebuild his career in a different league, gain regular playing time and demonstrate that he can still perform at a high level.
The Spanish side may also hope that a change of environment will help Sancho rediscover the confidence and attacking influence that made him highly sought after earlier in his career.
Nevertheless, the potential transfer remains dependent on negotiations between the club and the player’s representatives. Reports indicate that Getafe have made their offer, but no agreement has been confirmed.
For Sancho, the decision will involve balancing the prospect of regular football with the financial terms and long-term ambitions attached to his next destination.
Getafe have shown their willingness to pursue the signing, but the coming negotiations will determine whether the former Manchester United winger begins a new chapter in Spanish football.
