Governor Caleb Mutfwang sacks five cabinet members, appoints new commissioners
DDM News
In a surprising development, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has dismissed five members of his cabinet.
The sacking comes at a time when the state is grappling with the complexities of governance, with concerns over the performance of various sectors.
While no official reasons have been provided for the removals, sources close to the governor’s office suggest that the decision may have been prompted by underperformance and dissatisfaction with the work of the dismissed officials over the past year.
Diaspora digital media (DDM) revaild that the affected members of the cabinet held key positions in areas such as Budget and Economic Planning, Youth and Sports, Tourism and Hospitality, Science and Technology, and Commerce and Industry.
The dismissed officials include Chrysanthus Dawam, who served as the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Noel Nkup, who was in charge of Youth and Sports, Jamila Tukur, the former Commissioner for Tourism and Hospitality, Obed Goselle, who held the Science and Technology portfolio, and Sule Musa, who managed the Commerce and Industry sector.
Each of these departments plays a significant role in shaping the state’s economy, tourism sector, and youth development programs.
As such, the sudden removal of these key figures raises questions about the effectiveness of the administration’s approach to tackling Plateau State’s developmental challenges.
Notably, two of the dismissed commissioners, Dawam and Tukur, had previously been suspended for three months in 2024 under circumstances that were never publicly disclosed.
This history of disciplinary action against them further fuels speculation that their removal is related to unsatisfactory performance or internal tensions within the administration.
The lack of clarity regarding the reasons for their suspensions and ultimate dismissal has left many wondering about the true motivations behind these decisions.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who assumed office with a commitment to tackling the state’s economic woes and improving governance, appears to be making a significant shake-up within his cabinet to address perceived shortcomings.
His leadership style, which was initially characterized by a focus on transparency and inclusivity, is now under scrutiny as these sackings take place.
Analysts suggest that the move could be a strategic response to mounting pressure to deliver on his electoral promises.
While no formal statement has been issued on the exact reasons for the dismissals, the public perception is that Governor Caleb Mutfwang is acting to recalibrate his administration, ensuring that only those who are aligned with his vision for the state remain in positions of power.
This decision could also reflect a desire to move beyond the earlier controversies that marked the beginning of his tenure.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang has already made steps to fill the vacant positions, announcing the appointment of five new commissioners.
The new appointees bring with them a mix of experience from different local government areas in the state.
They include Sunday Alex from Bassa Local Government Area, Joyce Ramnap from Langtang South, Sylvanus Dongtoe from Shendam, Nicholas Baamlong from Qua’an Pam, and Cornelius Doeyok, also from Qua’an Local Government Area.
Each of these individuals has been entrusted with key portfolios, and their appointments are seen as an opportunity for the governor to inject fresh perspectives and new energy into the state government.
This reshuffle marks a pivotal moment in Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s administration.
The move to overhaul the cabinet is expected to have significant implications for the governance of Plateau State, particularly as the governor continues to navigate the complexities of managing a diverse and resource-rich state like Plateau.
The appointment of new commissioners, especially those drawn from different local government areas, is viewed as a deliberate effort to ensure that various regions of the state are better represented at the decision-making table.
It is clear that Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s government is undergoing a period of transition, and the next few months will likely reveal whether the new team can deliver the results that Plateau State residents have been waiting for.
With these changes, the governor is sending a clear message: only those who can meet the expectations of the people and help move the state forward will remain in his cabinet.
As the state gears up for a new chapter in its leadership, eyes will be on the newly appointed officials to see how they respond to the challenges that lie ahead.
In the broader context, this move also reflects a trend seen in many state governments across Nigeria, where leaders periodically overhaul their cabinets in an effort to meet the evolving demands of governance.
Whether this reshuffle will lead to the promised improvements in governance and service delivery in Plateau State remains to be seen.
