Canadian singer Grimes has reaffirmed her commitment to putting her children first as her co-parenting journey with tech billionaire Elon Musk continues to unfold publicly.
The former couple, who began their on-and-off relationship in 2018, share three children together: son X Æ A-Xii, born in May 2020; daughter Exa Dark Sideræl, born via surrogate in December 2021; and son Techno Mechanicus, born in June 2022.
Despite their ongoing custody dispute, Grimes has maintained that her primary focus remains on building a strong and healthy relationship with her children. Speaking in a past interview, she emphasized the importance of balancing discipline with emotional connection.
“I really care about having a very good relationship with my kids — both enforcing discipline and being their friend,” she said.
Elon Musk, who has several other children from previous relationships, previously acknowledged that Grimes took on a larger share of parenting responsibilities during the early stages of their first child’s life.
In October 2023, Grimes filed a petition to establish parental rights for their three children. By November 2024, she revealed that the ongoing legal battle had begun to affect her creative output, describing the situation as a significant burden on her music career.
While the co-parenting situation continues to draw public attention, Grimes has remained focused on motherhood, making it clear that her children’s wellbeing remains her top priority.
