Guild of Editors to commission its secretariat, in Lagos

This is the first ever secretariat owned by Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE). The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) is set to commission its first secretariat since inception over 50 years ago, which is overdue.

This information is contained in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of NGE, Mr Ken Ugbechie Ugbechie, which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja.

Ugbechie noted that the secretariat would serve as a permanent office of the NGE, the highest professional body of Nigerian editors in the print, electronic and online media.

The publicity secretary, said Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno will be the special guest of honour, while the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode and Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed will be host governor and host minister, respectively.

He added that the former governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, who played a prominent role during the fund-raising for the secretariat, would chair the occasion.

Ugbechie stated that the event would also have in attendance other dignitaries, including captains of industry, public office holders as well as professionals and business people.

Ugbechie quoted the President of the Guild, Mrs Funke Egbemode as saying “the acquisition of a secretariat for the guild was a milestone in the history of the highest professional body in Nigerian journalism’’.

Egbemode thanked past leaders of the guild for their vision and hard work to realise the dream of a permanent office for the guild.

“The commissioning of the secretariat would take place on Thursday, October 6, in Ikeja, Lagos at 24, Mojidi Street, off Toyin Street, Ikeja, which is the address of the secretariat,’’ Egbemode said.

She enjoined all past presidents of the guild, Fellows and members to turn out en masse to grace the epoch making occasion.
