Gunmen have abducted two residents of Kobape in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State after attacking the community on Thursday evening.
The victims, identified as Kelvin Ayobami Moyegun and Kehinde Rufai, were taken away by the armed men, while another resident, Al-haqq Shobakin, sustained gunshot injuries during the attack. He is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Abeokuta.
A relative of one of the abducted victims, Tosin, told PUNCH Online that the incident happened at about 7 p.m. when one of the residents, Olayinka Obadimu, was about to leave his house.
According to him, Shobakin had stepped outside to open the gate when about four armed men suddenly emerged and confronted them.
Obadimu reportedly sped off despite being fired at, but Shobakin was shot by the attackers before they abducted Moyegun and Rufai.
“The police, Amotekun Corps and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have all been alerted. We are hoping they will do everything possible to rescue our loved ones,” Tosin said.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident on Friday.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said security operatives had been deployed to rescue the abducted victims and track down those responsible.
“I can confirm there was an abduction, and one person is receiving medical treatment in the hospital. Our operatives are already on the trail of the kidnappers to ensure the victims are rescued and the suspects are arrested,” he said.
The latest attack comes weeks after the police rescued Prince Idris, an abducted prince from Okun-Owa in Odogbolu Local Government Area. Two members of the kidnapping gang involved in that operation were later killed during a follow-up police operation.
