Gunmen kill man on way to church in Plateau

A man heading to church was shot dead by suspected gunmen on Sunday morning in Fann community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident, which occurred at about 8am, reportedly triggered fear and tension among residents of the community.

A resident, Erica Dung, who confirmed the killing, expressed concern over what she described as another attack on innocent residents.

Dung said the latest incident had further heightened concerns among residents, particularly as attacks and killings continue to raise security fears across communities in the local government area.

The killing comes amid renewed anxiety over the security situation in Barkin Ladi and neighbouring communities, where residents have continued to call for stronger security measures.

While reacting to the incident, Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders, Rwang Tengwong, condemned the killing and described it as unacceptable.

Tengwong called on security agencies to step up surveillance and patrols, particularly in communities considered vulnerable to attacks.

He also appealed to the Plateau State Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the killing.

The youth leader urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly alert security authorities whenever they notice suspicious movements or activities within their communities.

Attempts to obtain comments from security agencies on the incident were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
