Renowned political economist, Professor Patrick Utomi, has said if Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), was corrupt like many other politicians in Nigeria, APC-led government would have seized the opportunity to arrest and put him behind bars until the elections are over.
Utomi, who is an ardent supporter of Obi said this in post on his official Facebook page on Wednesday.
According to Professor Utomi, the clean reputation of Peter Obi, is precisely why the corrupt political elites are so disturbed by him.
He argued that they cannot find the kind of dirt they are accustomed to using against politicians, and that is what makes the former governor of Anambra State a major threat to their corrupt establishment.
Utomi said: “I’ve said this many times, if Peter Obi had any skeletons in his cupboard or was corrupt like many other politicians, this APC-led administration would have seized the opportunity to arrest him, lock him up and keep him behind bars until after the election, especially as an opposition figure.
“This is precisely why the corrupt political elites are so disturbed by him. They know that, no matter how hard they try, there is no credible wrongdoing they can pin on him.
“They cannot find the kind of dirt they are accustomed to using against politicians, and that is what makes him a major threat to their corrupt establishment.”
