OSOGBO, NIGERIA — Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has declared his support for Pelumi Olajengbesi, the Accord Party candidate for Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency in Osun State, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Igboho made the declaration on Sunday during a visit to Osun State, where he met with Olajengbesi and other Accord Party stakeholders. He said his decision to support the candidate was based on his track record of advocacy, integrity, and commitment to the welfare of the people.
“I am supporting Pelumi Olajengbesi because he is a man of integrity who has consistently fought for the rights of the people. He is a lawyer, an activist, and a true representative of the people. I believe he will deliver good governance and effective representation if elected,” Igboho stated.
The Yoruba Nation activist, who has become a significant political figure in the South-West, said his support for Olajengbesi was not about party affiliation but about the candidate’s capacity to deliver. He urged the people of Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency to vote for Olajengbesi and to support his campaign.
“I am not here to campaign for a political party; I am here to campaign for a credible candidate. Pelumi Olajengbesi is a man who has shown that he cares about the people. He has the experience, the competence, and the integrity to represent you effectively. I urge you to support him,” he said.
Olajengbesi, who is a human rights lawyer and activist, welcomed Igboho’s endorsement, describing it as a boost to his campaign. He said Igboho’s support was a reflection of the growing coalition of progressive forces in the South-West who are committed to good governance and accountability.
“I am honoured to receive the support of Sunday Igboho. He is a man who has fought for the rights of the Yoruba people and for justice in Nigeria. His endorsement is a testament to our shared commitment to a better Osun State and a better Nigeria,” Olajengbesi stated.
The Accord Party has been positioning itself as a strong contender in the South-West ahead of the 2027 elections, with the party’s candidate in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke, having won re-election in the August 2026 governorship poll. The party is hoping to build on that success to win more seats in the National Assembly and state assemblies in 2027.
Igboho’s endorsement is seen as a significant boost for the Accord Party in Osun State, particularly in the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency. The activist has a large following in the South-West and has been actively involved in promoting Yoruba interests and advocating for better governance.
In a related development, Igboho also reiterated his call for the unity of the Yoruba people and for greater attention to the development of the South-West. He urged the Federal Government to address the security challenges facing the region, particularly the activities of bandits and kidnappers in the forests of the South-West.
“We cannot continue to live in fear. The government must take decisive action to secure our forests and to protect our people. The South-West must be safe for all of us,” he said.
As the 2027 elections approach, Igboho’s endorsement of Olajengbesi is likely to generate further debate about his political role and his influence in the South-West. For now, the Accord Party has welcomed his support, and the campaign for the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency seat has received a significant boost.
