To enhance internal security, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has announced two key appointments for the Nigeria Police Force.
Commissioner of Police Abayomi Shogunle will lead the Special Intervention Squad, while CSP Chima Ogarashi takes on the role of Force Marine Officer.
On Thursday, Police Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi disclosed these appointments in an official statement to the public.
According to the statement, CP Shogunle will lead the SIS in tackling various security challenges across the nation.
He will also oversee critical responsibilities, including Elections Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation, and the Safe School Protection Squad.
The SIS is tasked with addressing violent crimes and ensuring swift responses to emerging threats.
CP Shogunle brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served in the department of operations and public relations.
His expertise in multiple capacities positions him to effectively manage the SIS and its associated units.
In a significant development, CSP Chima Ogarashi has taken on the role of overseeing maritime security as the Force Marine Officer.
Ogarashi will lead efforts to combat crime along Nigeria’s inland waterways and enforce maritime laws.
His appointment aligns with the IGP’s initiative to bolster security in one of the country’s critical sectors.
The statement emphasized the acquisition of 25 new gunboats by the Nigeria Police Force to enhance maritime safety proactively.
As a result, these assets will enhance security operations along waterways. Furthermore, they aim to boost public confidence in Nigeria’s maritime zones.
Furthermore, the statement noted, “These key appointments came at a crucial time as the Force unveils 25 newly acquired gunboats.”
The IGP assured Nigerians of the police force’s unwavering commitment to addressing security threats and safeguarding lives and property nationwide.
These strategic moves clearly underscore the Force’s dedication to maintaining law and order.
Moreover, they foster confidence in its ability to respond effectively to evolving challenges.
