Infrastructure Credit Guarantee Company Plc (InfraCredit) has secured a $50 million subordinated debt facility from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to expand financing for infrastructure projects in Nigeria.
The 10-year unsecured facility will strengthen InfraCredit’s capacity to mobilise long-term local-currency funding for infrastructure projects, helping to bring more private capital into the sector.
InfraCredit provides guarantees that help infrastructure developers raise funding from institutional investors, including pension funds and other long-term investors.
The company said the new facility would increase its ability to support projects requiring long-term financing, particularly as Nigeria continues to face significant infrastructure funding gaps.
The IFC investment is also expected to help deepen the local debt market by encouraging more investors to participate in infrastructure financing through naira-denominated instruments.
For Nigeria, the funding comes as high financing costs and limited access to long-term capital continue to constrain infrastructure development.
By increasing InfraCredit’s financial capacity, the facility could help unlock additional private investment in projects across critical areas of the economy.
The deal reinforces the growing role of development finance institutions in helping Nigeria attract private capital for infrastructure while reducing pressure on public funding.
With the additional $50 million, InfraCredit is positioned to expand its guarantee activities and support a larger pipeline of infrastructure investments across the country.
