Insecurity: Why N/West govs, monarchs met NSA, service chiefs in Kaduna
Need to reassure citizens and residents in on the growing security challenges in the country informed Monday’s parley by governors of the North West of the country, its traditional rulers with the Service Chiefs and the National Security Adviser to the President, Major General Babagana Monguno in Kaduna.
comprising Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara, North-West zone has been engulfed in different forms of criminality arising from kidnapping, banditry to rustling for the past one decade.
Also in the expanded meeting were traditional rulers from the seven states as well as prominent religious scholars and clerics.
Among the Governors that arrived early were the governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-rufai, Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganguje, Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, Katsina State governor, Aminu Bello Masari, Zamfara State governor, Bello Matawalle and the Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong.
Lalong, was invited to the meeting, as the chairman of Northern Governors Forum. (NGF)
The meeting, it was gathered, was organised by the office of the National Security Adviser.
According to Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Leo Irabor, the security of Nigeria is of great concern to the Armed forces, he said that the security of lives of every individual remains the major responsibility of every government.
“I am delighted to be here. Our meeting is intended to meet Governors from the North West to let them and those in the zone know that the security of Nigerians is of great concern to the Armed forces.
Irabor stated that the government of President Muhammadu Buhari is not sleeping over the security challenges of the country, adding tha the Armed forces are working with the National security adviser to ensure peace is restored to the zone.
“We are here today to assure you that the government of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari is not sleeping regarding the security challenges of the country. We are working harder with the National Security Adviser. We just took over barely two months and data have been collected, as we work together in Unity. He added.
National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, who explained that the meeting was apt, also explained that the remaining five zones in the country will as well witness the meeting in subsequent times to address the insecurity challenges of the country.
Babagana as well stressed that President Muhammadu Buhari, is much concerned about the wanton destructions of human lives in recent times and he is committed to ensuring that the ugly situation come to an end soon.
“The purpose of the meeting is to address the insecurity challenges of the country. President Muhammadu Buhari is deeply concerned about the wasted lives of innocent Nigerians and he is committed to bring an end to this ugly situation.
“It is true that protection of lives and prosperities of citizens, remain the primary assignment and fundamental responsibility of any government, this has necessitated our coming together today.
“The new service chiefs have been up and doing to secure the citizens and their efforts should be commended,” he said.
He also added that President Buhari and the new service chiefs are determined and relentless to keep Nigeria safe.

“All tiers of Government will work together to ensure that the efforts of the service chiefs do not end in futility.
“As diverse as we are, our greater strength remains “Unity in diversity” not in natural resources. Educate your colleagues not to undermine National Security, they should however provide intelligence reports.” He stressed.
It is expected that the NSA, General Babagana Monguno, is expected to hold similar meetings with the governors and other stakeholders from all the six geopolitical zone in order to address the general insecurity that pervaded the country.
