Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has lauded women globally for their resilience, hard work and achievements.

Senator Tinubu stated this, in celebration of the 2025 International Women’s Day (IWD) held every March 8, 2025.

The theme for 2025 IWD is “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality.  Empowerment.”

According to the nannews.ng, Mrs. Tinubu, in her message, encouraged women to cherish and support one another.

The First Lady said: “Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of all women and girls across Nigeria and the world.

“The theme for this year serves as a powerful reminder of the need to reaffirm our commitment to building a society where every woman and girl can thrive, free from discrimination and limitations.

“I believe it is time for women to make this happen. Let us all endeavour to lift each other up, one woman at a time,” she added.

About IWD

The International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women’s achievements or rally for women’s equality.

Marked annually on March 8th, IWD is said to be one of the most important days of the year to:

  • Celebrate women’s achievements
  • Educate and awareness raise about women’s equality
  • Call for positive change advancing women
  • Lobby for accelerated gender parity
  • Fundraise for women-focused charities.

Earlier, diasporadigitalmedia.com, reported that this year IWD campaign focuses on the need to Accelerate Action.

According to World Economic Forum (WEF), the current rate of progress will take until 2158, which is roughly five generations from now, to reach full gender parity.

This calls for increased momentum and urgency in addressing the systemic barriers and biases that women face, both in personal and professional spheres.
