American singer Chris Brown has been sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for one year, over an assault on music producer Abe Diaw at a nightclub in Mayfair, London, in 2023.

Brown, 37, whose full name is Christopher Maurice Brown, pleaded guilty in July to a charge of affray in connection with the incident, which left Diaw needing hospital treatment for head and knee injuries.

According to BBC News, closed-circuit television footage showed the singer striking Diaw on the head with a glass bottle during the incident.

Delivering his sentencing remarks, Judge Tony Baumgartner said the repeated use of the bottle was “plainly dangerous”.

The judge acknowledged that the incident was brief but described it as intense.

Earlier, Brown’s defence barristers described the incident as an “ugly and unattractive incident”, adding that it was “very short-lived”.

Co-defendant also receives suspended sentence

Brown’s co-defendant, Omololu Akinlolu, a 40-year-old vocal coach, was also sentenced over the incident.

Akinlolu received a four-month prison sentence, suspended for one year.
