There is palpable tension in Ikerin/Ajuba area in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State after armed bandits stormed the community on Saturday night, killing many people and leaving scores injured.

The recent attack has intensified concerns over worsening insecurity in Kwara South, where communities have faced increasing cases of kidnappings and violent attacks in recent months.
Sources in the area said the criminal elements stormed the community late on Saturday and fired gunshots indiscriminately during the operation.
“Yes, it is true but the exact numbers of the people kidnapped, injured and killed have yet to be confirmed,” a source said.
The source added that security authorities and local leaders were still assessing the scale of the attack and the number of victims involved.
Residents alleged that the attackers operated for a prolonged period without immediate confrontation, forcing many villagers to flee for safety.
“The shooting was heavy. Everybody ran. We don’t even know who is alive or missing now,” another local source said, speaking on condition of anonymity for security reasons.
Meanwhile, the incident has sparked renewed calls for urgent intervention by government and security agencies, as residents lament the persistent attacks affecting rural communities in the district.
