The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has identified two suspected cases of Ebola disease in Nigeria’s North-East region.

The agency disclosed this in an update on Saturday, October 31, 2026, noting that both individuals had been isolated while investigations and laboratory tests were ongoing.

According to the NCDC, health authorities have begun identifying and listing people who may have had contact with the suspected cases as part of efforts to monitor possible exposure.

The agency, however, warned Nigerians against treating the cases as confirmed Ebola infections, stressing that confirmation would depend on the outcome of laboratory tests.

“Being classified as suspected cases does not mean they are confirmed Ebola cases; confirmation is subject to laboratory results,” the agency said.

The disease control agency urged Nigerians to maintain proper hand hygiene, practise good sanitation and follow public health guidance.

It also assured the public that further updates would be provided as verified information became available.

The development comes amid public health concerns over Ebola, a viral disease that can cause severe illness and requires prompt identification, isolation and response measures.
