The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has suspended the indefinite strike embarked upon by public school teachers in Oyo State following the intervention of the union’s national leadership.
The decision was announced on Wednesday in a joint statement signed by Hassan Fatai, chairman of the Oyo State chapter of the NUT, and the union’s secretary, Olukayode Salami.
According to the statement, the suspension followed a review of the prevailing security situation as well as appeals from the Oyo State Government and other key stakeholders.
The industrial action was declared in response to growing concerns over the abduction of schoolchildren in the state.
The union said members have been directed to return to work while efforts continue to address the security concerns that prompted the strike.
Further details are expected.
