The United States Secret Service has confirmed that it is aware of a video aired by Iranian state media that appears to threaten the life of Barron Trump, the youngest son of President Donald Trump.
Secret Service spokesman Nate Herring said the agency investigates anything that could be perceived as a threat against people under its protection.
“The U.S. Secret Service is aware of the video and investigates anything that can be perceived as a threat toward our protectees,” Herring said in a statement.
He added that the agency would not provide further details about the matter because of operational security concerns.
The development comes amid heightened tensions between the United States and Iran following the US assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iranian media have since circulated content on several occasions threatening President Trump and members of his family.
The assassination of Khamenei occurred at the start of the war in Iran launched by Trump alongside Israel.
CNN had earlier reported that the Secret Service was aware of the threat against Barron Trump.
The latest development comes as tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high, with the US also imposing fresh economic sanctions on Iran and threatening countries and entities that continue to do business with Tehran.
