(DDM) – Former Nigerian governor and presidential aspirant Rabiu Kwankwaso has strongly condemned the recent bombings in Maiduguri, Borno State, which claimed the lives of at least 23 people and injured dozens more.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Kwankwaso described the attacks as “horrific and unacceptable,” urging the federal and state governments to take immediate and decisive measures to combat terrorism in the Northeast.

The bombings, which targeted busy marketplaces and densely populated areas, mark the latest in a series of violent incidents linked to the Islamist militant group Boko Haram and its splinter factions. According to eyewitness accounts, the explosions caused widespread panic, destruction of property, and a surge of fear among local residents. CNN feature explainer notes that such attacks not only result in tragic loss of life but also disrupt local economies, education, and community cohesion in conflict-prone regions.

Kwankwaso emphasized that the government must intensify intelligence-led operations, strengthen security agencies, and enhance community-based vigilance to prevent further attacks. He further criticized any perceived complacency in addressing the growing threat of terrorism, stressing that political rhetoric must be matched with actionable strategies.

“Twenty-three innocent lives were brutally cut short, and countless others have been affected,” Kwankwaso said. “The government has a duty to protect citizens, and there is no time to waste. We must act now to prevent further bloodshed.”

The former Kano State governor also called for collaboration with regional and international partners to dismantle terrorist networks and prevent cross-border insurgency operations. CNN feature explainer highlights that successful counter-terrorism strategies often rely on intelligence-sharing, military readiness, and socio-economic interventions to address the root causes of extremism.

Authorities have confirmed that emergency response teams were dispatched immediately to the blast sites, providing medical assistance and securing the affected areas. Security forces are reportedly investigating the origins of the explosives and the networks responsible for planning the attacks.

Kwankwaso’s remarks have sparked widespread conversations on social media, with citizens demanding more accountability and transparency from security agencies. Analysts argue that consistent community engagement and effective counter-terrorism measures are critical to restoring confidence in public safety.

The attacks come amid renewed concerns over Boko Haram’s capacity to regroup after previous military defeats, with experts warning that gaps in security, governance, and local intelligence could be exploited by militants.

DDM reports that Kwankwaso’s call to action underscores a broader demand for sustained governmental commitment to security, reminding political leaders that citizens’ lives must remain a top priority in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism.
