Kwankwaso Visits Presidential Villa, Shuns Press Amid APC Talks
DDM News

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), visited the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that his presence at the State House intensified growing speculation about his possible defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kwankwaso attended the Nigeria Forest Economy Summit 2025, held at the Banquet Hall of the Villa.
The event was organised by the Presidential Committee on Economic and Financial Inclusion (PreCEFI).
Although physically present, Kwankwaso avoided the media and did not deliver any speech during the summit.
His discreet appearance follows recent reports linking him to high-level meetings with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and senior APC figures.
Sources allege that the talks may involve a deal offering him political compensation in exchange for switching parties.
This development fuels rumours that Kwankwaso is preparing to align with the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
Meanwhile, the summit itself focused on Nigeria’s dwindling forest resources and their untapped potential for economic development.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Hadejia, delivered a strong message.
He revealed that over 90% of Nigeria’s original forest cover has vanished, with about 400,000 hectares disappearing every year.
Shettima described the deforestation crisis as an “economic emergency” requiring urgent national attention.
He stressed that forests are not only environmental assets but also key economic drivers.
He referenced nations like Vietnam, Brazil, and Ethiopia as examples of countries leveraging their forest sectors into billion-dollar industries.
Dr. Sadiq Sani, CEO of Netzence Sustainability Limited, also addressed the summit.
He announced that his firm is deploying advanced technology to unlock over $2 billion in value from Nigeria’s forest economy.
Dr. Sani emphasised that responsible and tech-driven forest management could transform Nigeria’s rural economies and reduce poverty.
As discussions on forest economy took centre stage, political watchers remained focused on Kwankwaso’s silent but symbolic visit.
His silence at the event only deepened public curiosity about his next political move.
