A 21-year-old man, identified as Tosin Lamidi, reportedly walked into a police trap after allegedly stealing a woman’s SIM card during a break-in at her apartment in Ikotun, Lagos State.
Lamidi was accused of breaking into Gift Nseobong’s apartment at No. 8 Mutiatu Okesalu Street, Ikotun, where he allegedly made away with laptops, mobile phones and other valuables.
According to the case, Lamidi later sold most of the stolen items but kept Nseobong’s SIM card and began using the number.
After purchasing a new line, Nseobong reportedly dialled her former number and was surprised when Lamidi answered the call.
She allegedly told him that the SIM contained important contacts and documents she urgently needed to recover. In an attempt to get the SIM card back, she reportedly offered him money and later proposed having sex with him in exchange for its return.
Lamidi allegedly accepted the offer, believing he was meeting Nseobong for the arrangement.
The two reportedly agreed to meet at Ikotun Roundabout, Lagos, before proceeding to a hotel.
However, the meeting turned out to be a police operation.
According to the case, police officers were waiting at the agreed location when Lamidi arrived. He was reportedly arrested at the roundabout, while the stolen SIM card was recovered.
Lamidi was subsequently arraigned before an Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court on charges bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
Following the arraignment, he was reportedly remanded at the Kirikiri correctional facility while the case proceeds.
What Lamidi allegedly expected to be a private meeting over the recovery of the SIM card instead ended with his arrest and detention.
The case highlights how the stolen SIM card ultimately became the link that helped investigators locate the suspect after the alleged burglary.
