Man remanded in prison for assaulting two-year-old with cutlass

A 32-year-old commercial driver, Idowu Ali, has been remanded in prison for allegedly assaulting a two-year-old boy with a cutlass during a domestic issue.

Ali who was charged with criminal trespass, causing of grievous hurt and attempted culpable homicide, was remanded after being arraigned before an Ilorin magistrate court.

According to a Police First Information Report (FIR), the suspect had on June 7, 2022, attacked the family of one Emmanuel Ifeanyi, and cut his two-year-old son, Godwin, in his left leg, and Emmanuel in his right thumb.

He reportedly attacked the complainant while he was sleeping with his family on the corridor of his house over a domestic matter.

It was gathered that Ali left and returned minutes later with a cutlass aiming to kill Godwin Ifeanyi, the complainant’ son, whose leg he almost severed.

It read; ““Emmanuel Ifeanyi said while he was trying to collect the cutlass from Ali, the suspect cut Emmanuel’s right thumb with the cutlass.”

The incident resulted from a fight between two children of the complainant and the suspect.

The court adjourned till August 29.
