Nigerian singer Mavo has apologised to several Nigerian music stars after some of his old social media criticisms resurfaced online.
The rising artiste addressed the issue on X, reflecting on his early days as an entertainment critic while he was still in university.
Mavo explained that he once spent considerable time commenting on and criticising established Nigerian artistes on social media before eventually deciding to stop and focus on his own music career.
According to him, changing his focus has allowed him to concentrate on his growth as an artiste rather than constantly analysing the careers of other musicians.
He also acknowledged that some of his previous comments may have hurt people in the industry, saying his criticism was not intended to cause harm.
Mavo said his perspective changed further after he eventually met some of the artistes he had previously criticised online.
According to the singer, his personal interactions with them gave him a different impression from the one he had formed through social media.
“My criticism sadly, unfortunately & unintentionally hurt quite a few people & I’m honestly sorry,” he wrote.
He added that meeting many of those he had previously criticised showed him that they were different from the impression he had formed online.
“I have met most of these people, and they actually turn out to be amazing people. I’m sorry for my misjudgment. Let love lead,” Mavo added.
The apology has attracted attention online as Mavo continues to build his career as a recording artiste.
His transition from entertainment commentary to music has also given him a different perspective on the industry, particularly on the impact that public criticism can have on artistes.
Mavo’s latest comments appear to mark a willingness to move away from his earlier approach and maintain a more positive relationship with fellow Nigerian musicians.
The singer has continued to focus on his music career, with his recent activities placing him among the emerging young voices attracting attention in the Nigerian music scene.
