Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has hinted at the roots of his growing disagreements with Afrobeats stars Davido and Zlatan Ibile, saying their shared involvement in the campaign for justice for late singer Mohbad eventually became a source of division.
In a statement from a video addressing the controversy, VDM said he felt the need to explain the situation involving the three of them, suggesting that the same issue that initially brought them together had also contributed to their falling out.
“I think I need to make this video to explain the whole issue involving Davido, Zlatan and me. I think one thing that brought us together is the same thing that divided us, which is the fight for justice for Mohbad,” he said.
The comment comes amid renewed tension between the activist and the two musicians following events at Zlatan’s white wedding celebrations in Marrakesh, Morocco.
The controversy intensified after a video circulated online showing Davido singing along to a verse from Zlatan’s song, INFERNO, during the wedding festivities. The lyrics included the line, “I no be Vincent, I no dey masturbate,” which many social media users interpreted as a reference to VDM, whose real name includes Vincent and who had recently spoken publicly about masturbation.
VDM reacted angrily to the footage, mocking Davido and directing a warning at Zlatan. He suggested that the song was being used to ridicule him, although neither the circulating clip nor the lyric independently establishes the rapper’s intention.
The disagreement has also brought renewed attention to the history between VDM and Zlatan, particularly their exchanges following Mohbad’s death in September 2023.
In July 2025, VDM reignited discussions about the case by sharing an alleged audio recording said to feature Zlatan and music promoter Sam Larry discussing the controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death. VDM questioned Zlatan’s decision not to speak publicly during the initial calls for justice and demanded an explanation from the rapper. The recording and VDM’s interpretation of it generated further public debate.

VDM’s latest remarks suggest that the disagreements involving the entertainers cannot be understood solely through the recent wedding video or the exchange over Zlatan’s lyrics. By bringing up the Mohbad campaign, he has pointed back to an earlier period when their paths crossed around demands for accountability following the singer’s death.
His decision to address the matter in a dedicated video has generated fresh interest, with followers waiting to hear the fuller account of what happened between the three personalities and how their relationships changed.
Neither Davido nor Zlatan’s response to the specific statement quoted above has been established in the reports reviewed. For now, VDM’s remarks offer his own explanation of how a shared cause became entangled in the disagreements now playing out publicly.
