LONDON, ENGLAND — Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz has identified Manchester United defender Harry Maguire as the Premier League opponent he finds most difficult to face.
The Brazilian forward made the admission while discussing the physical demands of English football and the defenders who have presented him with the biggest challenges since his arrival at Fulham.
Muniz, 25, singled out Maguire because of the centre-back’s physical strength and his ability to compete aggressively with opposing forwards.
Muniz Praises Maguire’s Strength
Speaking to Score 90, Muniz was asked to name the Premier League defender he considers the toughest opponent.
The Fulham striker immediately chose Maguire and praised the Manchester United defender’s qualities.
“I think for me the worst to play is Maguire. Maguire is unbelievable,” Muniz said.
He explained that their battles are particularly demanding because both players rely heavily on their physical strength.
“All the time, he is like this [pushing] with you and when we play it’s a good fight because I’m strong and he’s strong,” Muniz added. “But I hate to play against him.”
Although Muniz used the word “hate”, his comments were clearly framed around the difficulty of facing Maguire rather than personal hostility towards the Manchester United defender.
Maguire Remains United Option
Maguire has continued to compete for a place in Manchester United’s defence despite facing competition for regular selection.
His physical presence and experience have remained important qualities, particularly when United face forwards who rely on strength and aerial ability.
Muniz’s assessment provides an insight into how opposing attackers view the former England captain.
For a striker, facing a physically strong centre-back can require constant battles for position, particularly when competing for crosses and long balls.
Muniz Building His Fulham Career
Muniz joined Fulham from Flamengo in 2021 and has since become an established member of the London club’s squad.
The Brazilian has reportedly made 128 appearances for Fulham, scoring 29 goals and providing four assists.
However, his development was interrupted by injury problems last season, including a serious hamstring issue that kept him out for 15 matches.
He is now attempting to put those setbacks behind him and regain a more prominent role under new Fulham head coach Álvaro Arbeloa.
Limited League Opportunities
Muniz has struggled to secure regular Premier League starts this season and has largely featured from the bench.
His performances in the Carabao Cup have nevertheless provided encouragement.
The striker scored during Fulham’s victories over AFC Wimbledon and West Ham, showing that he remains capable of making an impact when given opportunities.
Fulham will need greater attacking contributions as they attempt to improve their difficult start to the Premier League campaign.
Fulham Search For First League Win
Fulham currently sit second-bottom of the Premier League with two points, according to the report.
Their previous league fixture against Manchester United ended in a 1-1 draw, with Matheus Cunha scoring late for the visitors.
The result gave Fulham a point but left them still searching for their first league victory of the campaign.
Muniz and his teammates will next turn their attention to Ipswich as they look to change their fortunes.
For Muniz, greater involvement could provide an opportunity to improve his league form while continuing his battle with some of England’s strongest defenders.
And if Maguire is among those he faces again, the Fulham striker already knows exactly what kind of physical contest awaits him.
