‘Name Those Behind Oyo Abductions’ — Atiku Aide Dares Sunday Igboho

Paul Ibe, a media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has challenged Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Igboho to publicly identify the politicians he claims are backing those responsible for the abduction of schoolchildren in Oyo State.

Ibe made the call in a post on X on Thursday, insisting that if Igboho truly has credible information about the kidnappers and their sponsors, then security agencies should urgently invite him to assist in the investigation.

“Since Sunday Igboho claims to know those behind the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire, Oyo State, the DSS and other security agencies need to invite him to release those names to them,” he wrote.

He argued that any useful intelligence should not be kept in public statements but handed over to security operatives to help in rescuing the victims.

Ibe also raised concerns about the federal government’s response to another abduction incident in Borno State, where more than 50 schoolchildren were reportedly taken on May 15.

According to him, there appears to be inconsistency in how such incidents are handled, questioning why similar urgency has not been shown in that case.

“Every option should be on the table to fast-track the safe release of the school children and teachers. Why is the government silent over the Borno abduction? Are those children not Nigerians?” he added.

He further criticised what he described as a reactive rather than preventive approach to Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, calling for clearer timelines on the deployment of forest guards and other security measures in vulnerable areas.

The comments come as security agencies continue efforts to secure the release of abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
