ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Defence Headquarters has announced that coordinated airstrikes involving Nigerian forces and the United States military have killed 175 Islamic State-linked terrorists, including senior commanders, in North-East Nigeria.
According to the military high command, the joint operation targeted identified terrorist hideouts and operational enclaves believed to be used by ISIS-affiliated fighters operating within the region.
The Defence Headquarters stated that the airstrikes were part of ongoing multinational counterterrorism efforts aimed at degrading extremist networks and reducing their operational capabilities in Nigeria’s North-East.
Military authorities said the operation resulted in the neutralisation of high-value targets, including individuals described as senior leaders within the terrorist network.
The statement added that intelligence-driven coordination played a key role in identifying the locations of the targets prior to the execution of the airstrikes.
